NIGERIA: Father remanded over son's death

An Ilorin Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded a father, Solomon Obafemi, 53, for allegedly killing his own son,Victor.

A second person, Richard Obafemi, 20,  was also remanded in prison.

The prosecutor, Insp  Balikis Adu, told  the court that the accused conspired together with Richard who was a brother to the deceased to commit the act.

Adu said the accused used a machete to inflict cuts on the  head of the deceased, resulting in  his death on April 7 at Kilanko area of  Ilorin.

She said that the accused killed the deceased on the allegation that he was a trouble maker.

The accused, however,  pleaded not guilty to charges against them.

The prosecutor said the accused were arraigned on a two-count charge of  criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide contrary to sections 97 and 221 of the Penal Code Law.

She objected to the bail application of the accused on the ground that the alleged offences were  not  ordinarily bailable.

Magistrate Noah Ajide ordered the remand of the accused  at Okekura prison in  Ilorin and adjourned the case till  April 25 for mention. (NAN)
